Sick of Cold Callers – Selling Lies About PPI?

Telephone BoxI am so sick of answering the phone and hearing the following message:

“NatWest, Barclays, HSBC and Lloyds TSB customers, after losing the PPI court case all UK major banks are offering full refunds on all PPI policies. To get your full refund within 12 weeks press 5 or press 9 to be removed from our database. Start your claim now by pressing 5.”

If it was just one call a day, then I do not think that I would mind too much, but there appears to be a massive increase in unsolicited calls.

This biggest problem that I have is the they say that you will get a full refund within 12 weeks. Absolute garbage!! A few years ago, yes you could get a refund within that time period. However today you can expect to wait between 12 and 24 months.

You can also be pretty darn sure that many of these companies will charge you an upfront fee. My policy is either do it yourself or get a company to do it for you, that will only charge a commission on results.

Another thing to be aware of is that the majority of refunds are paid back to the original account, so if that account is in the red/overdrawn/outstanding balance you will not see some or all of the funds. You will still have to find the money to pay the company that got the money back for you, even though you did not physically receive the funds.

The other issue I have is that they will be gathering a lot of financial detail about you, this too is valuable to the company as it can be used further or sold on!
