That’s what the signs on the motorway says (well the first bit,Tiredness Kills) so you are encourage to take a break at the services, at a cost though!
OK so why am I so annoyed this time? What really gets up my snot box is that corporations try every tactic that they can to get some more money out of us! Now at motorway services we have Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras that look for vehicles that have outstayed their welcome.
Charges Apply to All Vehicles After 2 Hours
Here is a sample of sign that I spotted on my way out of London the other day:
“Charges Apply for All Vehicles after 2 Hours
Camera Enforcement in Operation
if you Park you agree to pay
first 2 hours free – thereafter
£12.00 for up to 24 hours
please paid by mobile phone – see signs in the car park for details
£100 if you fail to pay for parking correctly or part in a non-designated area or conduct any commercial activity a Charge Notice (CN) will be issued as this parking area is private land.
Your vehicles licence plate has been recorded by Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras and failure to abide by the terms and conditions of parking noted above will result in an application to the DVLA to trace the registered keeper of the vehicle and the PCN will be sent by post.
Vehicles and their contents are parked at owners risk and no liability is accepted by the service area operator or CP Plus Ltd.
Managed & Operated on behalf of Moto by CP Plus Ltd

Here is a little piece from their website: “At CP Plus® we try to make parking as simple as possible. We are always looking for ways to make parking more convenient for you and your customers.”
I think it should read “we can help you maximise your revenue from every client!”
It would seem that they are using technology to ensure that should we happen to outstay our welcome, we will have to pay!
During the day, these signs are easily visible, but at night they are harder to see and I am sure that many people have been caught out.
It think that also another big bugbear is that one of the shops there is Costa; we all know that they do what they can to avoid paying taxes.
So if you are travelling on the motorway and are feeling tired, just remember you could end up with a £100 fine if you accidental sleep longer than the allotted time. Or you could pay £12 for the privileged of snoozing in your own car!
We work hard for our money, so why should these companies be allowed to help push us into debt?
